Bonsaigers’ X is coming again, for its fourth edition, ready once again to determine the best bonsai artist on the internet.

A chance for anyone to showcase on a world stage.

Bonsaigers’ X is a completely online and social exhibition, that allows whoever wants to showcase their creations to exhibit bonsai trees on a worldwide stage.

If you are a bonsai grower, no matter where are you from you will be able to participate. There will be no need to travel or ship your tree anywhere. With the power of social medias and a simple picture, your creation will be showcased to the world, giving you the possibility to become the next Bonsaigers’ Master.

32 participants will be placed randomly into the tournament, where from the 23rd of November they will start competing against each other.

We are ready for the greatest Bonsaigers’ X of all time. Are you?

The Fourth Edition Deserves an Upgrade.

After three years we realized that with the growing popularity of the competition some of our rules needed to be updated, to ensure that Bonsaigers’ X will continue its growth in the future, especially in its credibility.

To do so, we came to the decision that basing the judging system merely on the social vote wouldn’t be enough to elect what tree would become the winner.

The solution that we came forward with is a new and exciting one.

On the side of the Social vote we will introduce the vote of three judges, three recognizable figure in the bonsai world, with plenty of experience in the craft and able to judge through a subjective voting system.

Judge N° 1

JONAS DUPUICH

WRITER, TEACHER AND BONSAI PROFESSIONAL, JONAS DUPUICH RUNS A NURSERY IN NORTHERN CALIFORNIA, WHERE HE GREW BONSAI FOR MORE THAN 30 YEARS.

HE’S THE AUTHOR BEHIND THE BONSAI TONIGHT BLOG, “THE LITTLE BOOK OF BONSAI“ AND SINCE 2022 HE CO-RUNS THE PACIFIC BONSAI EXPO, ONE OF THE MOST FAMOUS BONSAI EXHIBITION IN THE UNITED STATES.

Judge N°2

ANDREI “DAO” DARUSENKOV

AFTER WINNING FOR THE FIRST TWO YEARS, ANDREI DARUSENKOV LANDS IN THE JUDGE POSITION OF THE 2024 EDITION OF BONSAIGERS’ X.

TEACHER IN BONSAI AND NIWAKI FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS, DAO CREATED A COLLECTION WITH MORE THAN 300 EUROPEAN NATIVE SPECIMENS, PROMOTING THE IDEA OF IMPROVING HUMAN LIFE THROUGH THE INTERACTION WITH TREES, EITHER IN POTS OR IN GROUND.

Judge N° 3

FRANCESCO SANTINI

IBS INSTRUCTOR, CURATOR OF SOME INCREDIBLE COLLECTIONS AND AN ABSOLUTE ITALIAN BONSAI LEGEND, FRANCESCO SANTINI, WILL TAKE PART OF THIS YEAR BONSAIGERS’ X AS A JUDGE.

AS ONE OF THE MOST PROMINENT ITALIAN BONSAI FIGURES IN THE WORLD, WE ARE INCREDIBLY PROUD, OF ANNOUNCING FRANCESCO’S PARTICIPATION IN THIS YEAR’S EVENT.

The Social Vote.

To ensure that both the judges and the fans, will have an equal part in the decision of the winner, we created a point based system, where each judge and the fans will decide the winner of each match.

During each round of the tournament trees will stand against each other in a face off, having the possibility to get a total of 5 point in every single one of this matches.

The Voting System.

The Social Voting has been in the past editions of Bonsaigers’ X the main and unique way for a tree to receive a vote.

The way that this is going to work in this year’s event is exactly as it was last year.

The bonsai will be placed against each other, each week on our Instagram Stories. Using the featured function dedicated we will allow people to vote, pressing on a button related to the tree that they prefer. After 24 hours, the Winner will be showcased, based on the percentage of people that voted the trees.

But where last years the social vote had supremacy over the winning of a tree against the other, this year it will be granting two points out of five. On the other side each judge will have the possibility to grant one vote for its favorite tree.

The Judges’ Voting System.

The introduction of Judges is the main update that this years’ Bonsaigers X is introducing.

With this improvement we are allowing three experts in the field to give their opinion on the best tree in each match and to communicate it, right after the end of each Social Vote.

Each judge will have the possibility to give to the favorite tree one point, deciding ultimately the winner.

Here’s an example of how the voting process will be executed.

An Example.

Let’s say that Tree A and tree B will face each other.

First the tree will go through the social vote. On our instagram stories we will give the chance to the fans to vote what tree will be their favorite. Let’s say that A will win against B with a percentage of 55% against 45%, bringing the score to 2-0.

Now it is time for the judges to vote.

Based on a fix criteria, each judge will assign a point to their favorite tree. Let’s say that two of the judges will prefer B and the other will prefer A.

This way the score will be 3-2, turning tree A to the winner of the face off.

As last year we will reward the winners of the competition with amazing prizes.

The first three participants will have the chance to win clothing, artworks and accessories from our latest collections and more.

The ultimate winner, our new Bonsaigers’ Master, will bring home something unique, that has never been given to any competition of this kind before.

The grand prize it’s still a surprise and will be presented for the first time before the Bonsaigers X’s finals.
