We are honored that all of this amazing growers decided to showcase their creation in this event. Deciding the finalists and consequently the winner would have been an hard task, but luckily our trusted followers could handle it in a superb way.
This are the trees that this year distinguished from the others.
3rd placement: Prunus Cerasifera from Andrija Zokić (@andbonsai)
This incredible Cherry Plum deserves with no doubt a place on the podium. Andrija has been developing a canopy with astonishing quality. The perfectly trimmed branches are adorned with shiny orange fruits, that create a fantastic contrast with the dark green of the foliage. Meanwhile, a wide nebari is anchoring the bonsai in an elegant rectangular brown ceramic pot.

2nd placement: Trident Maple from Walter Pall (@walter_pall)
One of the most famous growers in Europe, Walter Pall, decided to take part to the competition this year with an incredible specimen of Trident Maple. As you can see from Mr. Pall’s website the tree has a long story. Trident Maple #11 was imported from Japan in the early 00s and developed by the Swiss grower Juerg Staehl. The tree passed to Walter Pall’s collection in 2019 and it has been in refinement at his garden since then.
This bonsai is presented in a formal upright style (chokkan) and it showcase a really well placed ramification. The nebari is simply stunning. The way that it flairs out from the trunk in this elegant ceramic blue pot from Walter Venne, gives to the all composition great strength and stability, both great characteristics when talking about bonsai aesthetics.

1st placement: Crataegus Monogyna from the Undisputed Winner Andrei Darusenkov (@daobonsai)
For the second year in a row, with two different trees, Andrei Darusenkov has been selected by our followers as the winner of Bonsaigers’ X, and it’s easy to understand why.
With this tree Andrei was able to showcase what for us is the best part in bonsai making, turning a trunk of a simple Hawthorne, with barely any roots attached, in an absolute masterpiece. Dao documented the development of the tree from the start, shooting a picture of its trunk right after collection more that 14 years ago.
Lot has happened since that day. The tree has developed an amazing ramification, that at this time of the year, is displayed adorned by its characteristic red berries . The trunk line is gorgeous, slightly slanted but nonetheless extremely stable in its position, thanks also to the way that the vascular tissue twists moving towards a classic rectangular shaped ceramic pot, adorned with some Japanese landscapes.
